Cobalt In Feed

Cobalt is an essential trace mineral in ruminants as a component of Vitamin B12 which is important to the energy metabolism of rumen microbes and the host ruminant animal. Vitamin B12 is essential for the production of propionate in the rumen and conversion of propionate to glucose in the liver of beef and dairy cows.  Both cobalt carbonate and cobalt sulfate are acceptable sources of cobalt.
